Eclogite forms deep within the Earth’s crust or upper mantle under extremely high pressure and moderate to high temperatures, most commonly when basaltic oceanic crust is forced downward during subduction. Under these intense conditions, the original minerals transform into a dense, high-pressure metamorphic rock composed mainly of red Garnet and green Omphacite.
Over time, tectonic uplift and erosion bring eclogite back to the surface, making it a rare rock that provides valuable insight into deep-Earth geological processes. Its bold red-and-green colour contrast makes it highly sought after by collectors. Energetically, it is said to promote grounding, resilience, focus and stability during times of change.
