This shark boasted the title of largest predator to ever roam the ocean. With a total maximal length of about 20 meters, it was three times the size of its modern counterpart, the Great White (Carcharodon carcharias) shark. Belonging to the Carcharodon species, it lived during the Miocene period, approximately 16 million years ago, in South Carolina, USA.
As per native beliefs in the South Pacific, the God Ohav-Lai (God of the Seas) engaged in a day-long battle with a man-eating shark for control of the seas, during which the seas poured from the heavens. Emerging victorious, Ohav-Lai re emerged from the depths with a large shark tooth, bestowing upon it the power to grant its owner a long and prosperous life, free from all evil, especially that of the sea. To this day, native divers refuse to enter the water without a shark's tooth by their side.
